A planning application is being prepared for a residential development of 22 affordable homes with associated infrastructure and landscaping on land at South Parade, Thornley. The application is being prepared on behalf of Durham County Council’s Housing Delivery Team as part of the Council Homes programme, with the support of local construction company T Manners & Sons. The proposal will provide a range of affordable housing consisting of a mix of 2 and 3 bedroom houses and 2 bedroom bungalows. In addition to 2 bedroom apartments. It will therefore provide a mix of housing to meet the needs of a variety of potential occupiers. The draft layout plan has been designed to respect surrounding residential properties and follow the alignment of the existing dwellings where possible. It includes a substantial area of public open space to the west. Key features include:
  • A variety of house types, including apartments and bungalows,
  • Vehicular accesses from South Parade,
  • Views across open field retained where possible,
  • Retention of existing trees,
  • On plot and visitor car parking in line with requirements,
  • Provision of accessible and adaptable homes,
  • Landscaping scheme and provision of areas of public open space,
  • Improvements to South Parade including new footpath and off street parking and
  • Houses constructed to exceed current standards of energy efficiency.
