Following the creation of Westmorland and Furness Council, the local planning authority is in the process of preparing a new Local Plan, which will replace the existing Local Plans that were adopted by the former Councils (Barrow Borough Council, Eden District Council, South Lakeland District Council and Cumbria County Council).

Current consultations include a Call for Sites and an early conversation about how the area will be developed over the next 20 years.
